Getting started

What permits and registrations does Prime Permit Services help with?

We help US trucking companies with transportation permits and registrations, including UCR, USDOT registration, BOC-3, IFTA, IRP, operating authority, Form 2290 (HVUT), fuel stickers, NY trip permits, CARB certifications, oversize/overweight permits, and hazmat permits. UCR filing is available online now; additional services are rolling out as dedicated pages.

Are you a government agency?

No. Prime Permit Services Inc is a private third-party filing agency. We help carriers prepare and submit required filings. You can always file directly with the official government program when one is available.

Do you support English and Español?

Yes. The site and support are available in English and Español for US carriers and Mexico-based partners that need US interstate credentials.

How do I start a filing?

Open Services, choose the credential you need, and follow the service page. UCR can be started online today. For coming-soon services, contact us and we will guide you on the current process.

UCR registration

What is UCR?

The Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) program is an annual federal registration for motor carriers, brokers, freight forwarders, and leasing companies that operate in interstate commerce.

Who needs UCR registration?

You need UCR if you operate as a motor carrier, freight broker, freight forwarder, or leasing company across state lines — including when based in a non-participating state but operating into a participating state.

How are UCR fees calculated?

Fees are based on the official UCR fleet-size brackets (for example 0-2 vehicles, 3-5 vehicles, and so on). Brokers and freight forwarders without vehicles typically pay the lowest bracket.

What if I have 1001+ vehicles?

Select the 1001+ Vehicles bracket or contact us. Large fleets are quoted manually and do not use online card checkout.

Are you the official UCR website?

No. Prime Permit Services Inc is a private third-party filing agency. You may register directly at www.ucr.gov if you prefer to file without using our site.

What information do I need for UCR?

USDOT number, legal business name, entity type, fleet bracket, principal place of business address, authorized contact name, phone, and email.

USDOT & operating authority

What is USDOT registration?

A USDOT number identifies your company in FMCSA systems. New carriers register for a number; existing carriers keep MCS-150 information current so roadside and insurance records stay accurate.

What is operating authority (MC number)?

Operating authority is the FMCSA authorization for-hire carriers, brokers, and related entities need to operate in interstate commerce. Many companies need both a USDOT number and the correct authority type before hauling for hire.

What is a BOC-3 filing?

BOC-3 designates process agents in every state so legal papers can be served on your company. It is commonly required when you obtain or maintain interstate operating authority.

IFTA, IRP & fuel credentials

What is IFTA?

The International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) lets qualified carriers report and pay fuel use tax across member jurisdictions with one set of credentials instead of separate fuel permits in every state.

What is IRP?

The International Registration Plan (IRP) is apportioned vehicle registration for fleets that travel in multiple jurisdictions. IRP plates and cab cards show where the vehicle is authorized to operate.

What is a fuel sticker?

Fuel stickers and related fuel-tax credentials are cab-ready documents some jurisdictions require for inspection. They help prove your fuel-tax account is current when you travel interstate.

Taxes, trip & special permits

What is Form 2290 (HVUT)?

IRS Form 2290 is the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax return for qualifying trucks above the federal weight threshold. Proof of filing is often needed when renewing registration.

What is a NY trip permit?

A New York trip permit is short-term highway authority for temporary travel when you need limited NY access without a full annual registration cycle.

What are oversize / overweight permits?

State oversize and overweight permits authorize non-standard loads that exceed legal size or weight limits. Requirements, escorts, and routes vary by state and load dimensions.

What is a hazmat permit?

Hazmat permitting covers carriers that haul regulated hazardous materials. Depending on the freight and routes, you may need federal registration, state permits, and proper placarding/documentation.

What are CARB certifications?

CARB certifications relate to California Air Resources Board compliance for fleets entering or operating in California. Rules can include truck and trailer emissions requirements before you cross into the state.

Filing, timing & support

How long does processing take?

UCR applications that are complete and paid are typically processed the same day, with email confirmation and a digital certificate when filing finishes. Timelines for other permits depend on the agency and credential type.

Can you help if a service still says Coming soon?

Yes. Online ordering for some credentials is still launching. Contact us with the permit type, USDOT or company details, and destination states, and we will outline the current filing path.

Who should fleets and B2B accounts contact?

Use the B2B / fleets email on the site for volume pricing, multi-truck renewals, and special-rate questions. General filing support uses the main support email or phone listed in the header and footer.
